The innocence case of Keith Carnes has been wending its way through the Missouri courts. A recent evidentiary hearing revealed dramatic details about exculpatory information withheld by prosecutors, and it appears that the likelihood of Mr. Carnes’ freedom is increasing by the day. We are tremendously hopeful that Mr. Carnes will finally see justice after so many years of wrongful incarceration.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if, while addressing the injustice done to Mr. Carnes, the Missouri Supreme Court elected to right the wrong that is Lincoln v. Cassady as well? Christopher Dunn and other prisoners who have demonstrated their innocence would have a chance at freedom, instead of serving a long death sentence.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if innocence mattered in Missouri once again?
